OUR STORY

It all started when…

A child residing at Community House on Broadway, a local homeless recovery shelter, was struck by a vehicle after chasing a ball into the road (he did not sustain any injuries, thankfully!). Out of this unfortunate incident the idea for a youth activity center in Cowlitz County was born. The goal would be to provide youth at the shelter and in the community a safe place to engage in recreational activities. In 2019, CORE Health collaborated with Community House on Broadway to apply for funds for this project through the Washington State Department of Commerce. Although the proposal was initially declined, four months later, we received a call that they were reconsidering their decision, and we were awarded a $2 million grant! In the fall of 2021 we opened our doors to the youth of our community. Our center provides a safe atmosphere for youth to explore new interests, engage in pro-social activities, and access behavioral health services. CORE Health is present in 30 schools throughout Cowlitz County and continues to expand services to meet the needs of the community.
